Seisan Bunkai

  • Seisan Bunkai is introduced at the Sankyu (Brown Belt) level.
  • It should always be practiced with great spirit and intensity.

The attacker and defender reverse roles after completing one round of the Bunkai.

ATTACKER DEFENDER
1. Defender and attacker bow to Test Board, then to each other.
Demonstrate first nine moves of Seisan, return to opening stance.
a) Facing the defender, attack with a two-hand grab to the collar. a) Defend attackers collar grab with high to low double ridge hand motion, then double ridge hand strike to temples.
b) Facing the defender, attack with a left middle punch. b) Defend attackers left punch with left palm heel block, then triple palm heel tiger strike to face.
c) With defender facing away, tap defender on left shoulder, on third step grab with a bear hug. c) When tapped on left shoulder, step ahead, on third step attacker grabs, defender expands arms, drops, and does a right sweeping finger strike to attackers groin, right elbow strike to attackers ribs, step to left and turn with hands raised in defensive position.
2.
a) Facing the defender, attack with a two-hand grab to the collar. a) Defend attackers grab with two-hand thrust and grab of attackers waist and throw to the right.
b) Once thrown, attacker grabs a stick and attacks overhand at defender. b) Defender blocks stick attack with left block and grab, executes forward elbow strike, hiraken to temple.
3.
a) Attack defender with right punch to face. a) Left inside block, hammer strike to attackers left temple.
b) Attack defender with left punch to face. b) Right inside block, left bushkin to chin/nose with fingers to eyes.
4.
a) Attack defender with left middle punch. a) Defend with left circular block, left front kick.
b) Lunge down to grab defenders left leg below knee and lift. b) Defend with left hand push to back of attackers head with a right knee to attackers head, then right shoken to right temple of attacker.
5. Attack defender with right punch, then left punch. Demonstrate next three moves (Nukite).
Defend with right, then left circular blocks, right Nukite to arm pit of attacker.
6. Attack defender with sword attack, sweeping right to left, then overhead. Demonstrate last move – Seisan jump.
Defend attacker sword strike by jumping in aggressively, blocking left, right elbow strike, riken, and shoken.
